ALSO: HERE: is a link to my most recent posts, most seeming to have more relation to science than Buddhism per se

Ethology (ethogram, central concept): ONLY way of getting rid of false, persons'-own-generated ideas of nature/nurture conflict.Think it out

  • Been an extreme lack of progress in Gen. Psyc., Cognitive Psyc. & Developmental Psyc. for 30 yr. See my last several posts to understand why

  • Always learning & instinct, not as 2 different things BUT at the same time (always) if you want to be a scientist:

  • To believe that there is learning & (otherwise) there is innate guidance is necessarily establishing a totally false dualism -- just corrupt

  • Never diminish yourself by just learning; U must also (in ALL sign. ways) do personal understanding

  • To be realistic, must both do a sci.-based parsing-down of our outlook on humans & then come to see apes as close, & us as apes. That's all.

  • > advanced an organism, > innate action patterns; not just "more 'learning'" & not just emotion added; also bases of direction for COGNITION

  • not asking U to do other than what U may already be doing (apes, evolutionary cognition): just new outlook, patterns

  • If U know apes, help by looking into the grandest evolutionary hypothesis of all time:

  • & meditation: becoming increasingly familiar w/ the mind (but, NOT to have SELF) & about cultivating wholesome of the mind for ALL

  • developing some benign control during meditation, e.g.rhythmic breathing (Gilbert & Choden) may help some generalize med. tech. to the world

  • Humans will not have their humanity until & unless other apes have theirs. True evil of dominion must end; irrationality must be disposed of

  • To know that you know things is simply part of knowing things; to control what you do is simply part of doing

  • ... <-Bringing your "out" will reciprocally bring into your quiet contemplative states things worth attending to/being mindful of.

  • If U do not bring wholesome techniques of UR trad. meditation out into a cultivation in-life also, UR practice of is not complete

  • ...Wouldn't U like to find yourself "falling" into worthy contemplation -- where else could wisdom appear?

  • R U a rational, realistic person, tired of his/her self? GOOD. Get rid of it & be more reality-based and rational:

  • To know that you know things is simply part of knowing things; to control what you do is simply part of doing

  • How to have full appreciation of associative learning (throughout development) while taking conceit & idiocy out:

  • <-- evidence of what could appropriately be called conscious cognition (just some possible examples/candidates). That's what last 3 R about

  • showing knowledge of time, place, elaborate circumstances, making for prospective novel behavior & with novel USE of set of behaviors shown.

  • instantaneous representation &use in novel action, especially with changed, new set of considerations (poss. incl. understanding w/o seeing)

  • No cognition about cognition: ONLY elaborative cognition. Episodic memory and showing consideration of current and future (as sets).

  • What do U know: metacognition & executive processes are unnecessary and destructive concepts in cognitive TOO! Get really real.

  • : w/r to achievement of best progress & w/r to true intentionality: metacognition & exec. processes would be disallowed concepts

  • unit: human. Don't draw UR concentric circles (Bronfenbrenner) unless ea. aspect is clearly testable as envir. interaction of it

  • ...Those who speak about 'consciousness' be sure you can cite all external referents and describe it only in clear relation to these. OKAY?

  • You cannot understand the context of important emotions without understanding cognitive development (so do the work)

  • Those who usually cannot understand the 'abstract' phenomenon they describe: try to limit UR USE of word 'abstract' (real knowledge helps)

  • Those who speak about 'abstract', know that ITSELF (alone, isolated) CANNOT be defined.

  • Those who speak about 'motivation', know that ITSELF (alone, isolated) CANNOT be defined.

  • Those who cannot understand 'evolution' without act. seeing possible true evolutionary forerunners, please stop telling 'evolution stories"

  • Those who usu. cannot understand the 'complex' phenomenon they try to describe: try to limit UR USE of word 'complex' (real knowledge helps)

  • hypotheses in sci. terms, fully grounded in sci. principles, asserted & testable: job of sci. community to test them

  • How's clear knowledge of the limits of explicit thought congruent with the outrageous claims of the supposed 'complexity' we 'see'? It's not

  • stop _all_ non-science-based speculation about evolution & rather _show_ ALL we claim; 'evolutionary cognition', TOO, should be 'ethology'.

  • "cogn. studies will need to incl. emotions [(not hard)]...& greater involvement of neuroscience" (<-RATHER: try ethol. perspective on human)

  • "study of animal cogn. not only raises esteem in which we hold other species, but teaches us not to overest. R mental complexity" - de Waal

  • Apes' social behavior understanding: the same underlying core cognitive processes used by humans for everything. Clear assertion, testable.

  • Is there a psychological/developmental perspective where humans & other animals R viewed in the very same terms? C:

  • Is there anywhere to find true & rational &, _directly_ related to THAT, true science, all in 1 place? C:

  • <-U do verify such after-the-fact or mess up with wrong view / attachment(s); thus except for actual verifications, likely not-good 'within'

  • realizations 1 is to have R seen ONLY in real, specific interactions (primacy of mind, impermanence, non-self, no inherent nature)

  • If 1 likes the idea of "looking within" [for wisdom], 1 likely underestimates fund. interactional nature of Buddhist progress & realization

  • <- based on a comprehensive search of all 4 major Nikayas: 'within' w/r to bad or affirming good (NOT in context of finding good)

  • Buddha used the word 'within', but never in the context of wisdom within or anything of sort. We simply have capacity for wisdom, NOT within

  • humans will not have their humanity until & unless other apes have theirs. True evil of dominion must end; irrationality must be disposed of

  • C spirituality as all REAL & humans ARE apes: ea. part of

  • imagery & concepts apes use in understanding social relationships: true evol. forerunners of conceptualization, etc in human abstract thought

  • To C we R clearly apes: C: animal cognition shown by de Waal PLUS the paring down to what's behind human cogn. dev.:

  • Particular, special reasons cognitive developmental ethologists should read ethological science perspective on site:

  • Who will use the natural history & ontological (organismic) paradigm of classifying classification, ETC. 1st: AI or psyc? Psyc, if ethology!

  • start using the word 'ethology' (act. == good behav. sci.) before it becomes linked only to a company & a singing group. 1 of best of words.

  • biology of all behavior, incl. cognition, _BY_ relating it to overt behaviors is possible & coming soon (easy & needed prediction)

  • "Law of Effect": affecting WHAT? Every species SETS UP its own learning opportunities! We should be very thankful if old behaviorism is dead

  • What we observe in nature is not nature itself, but nature exposed to our method(s) of questioning (Heisenberg, adapted).

  • U can fool yourself or be fooled anywhere but where it is real -- that's why all life must be observed & become approp. pts. of mindfulness.

  • Problems with (wrongness of) much esoteric Dzogchen - it is NOT . That IS quite a problem. For details SEE:

  • Dear Followers: would be good if site () had more views. Please C what U can do, for my posts may get more rare. Thx

  • "develop kindness, support, encouragement; promote courage we need to take actions to promote the flourishing & well-being of all"

  • The Mahayana page (re: compassion), , has been expanded to teach U & help U self-learn compassion. FUN TOO.

  • Knowing something isn't correct &something-like-something-else IS doesn't itself give progress; such Zen isn't enough. Involvement

  • ... So to try to be clear about what should be clear & set 1 seeking the Path towards it, hopefully enough

  • That not understood/understandable (yet said to be so by wise) becomes clear to 1 on wisdom's path (reading non-understood 1st, unnecessary)

  • nothing's trivialized, since 1 must find all through experience & development -- true of all that's "non-conceptual" & of nibbana

  • Oct 3

Humans are SO far away from so many obviously needed solutions (that we can understand) it's unbelievable; posts noted 1 major thing to help

  • Political candidates illustrate our tribal nature. We have a tribal mentality (not necessarily bad; evolved) BUT many of us have no tribe!

  • We call any group w/ whatever similarity to us our 'community'; we NEED a Community where many friends R wholesome/Noble (Sangha)

  • Here's a non-duality to develop: and processes of higher personal development () Tell me why not!:

  • Core , rational & reality-based & generally knowable & applicable: Certain most should achieve stream-entry

  • Core Buddha's words work at/to all real levels: refined, big-worldly, or in the "middle": the great gen. applicability of the process (Path)

  • There R more refined things I don't understand;& larger worldly matters I don't well understand; I very well-understand some in the "middle"

  • There R dhammas: of mind & mental obj.; & of physical world. Never guess at either or just believe. know dhammas when 1 knows all about them

  • If U can't clearly C that something is true, then it's not true. Yet have the courage to believe nothing &the faith to strive to C

  • US: 'buddha nature' ONLY in sense that we have capacity to develop to buddha; 'buddha nature' ISN'T full-blown "in us". Drop myth!

  • 'luminous mind': On only 1p. of ALL Nikayas can 1 read it to poss. refer to reg. people; ALL MANY other times B used it ONLY re: enlightened

  • If there isn't INSIGHT OR moving towards that, then it isn't true meditation -- insight med. is unique contribution of Buddha

  • Get whole picture & way of the good process of personal development, according to the all Buddha's words:

  • "there is consciousness w/ name-and-form as condition, & name-and-form w/ consciousness as condition". From name-and-form: sensing & contact

  • Internal representations that can be put together in UR head R of such a high quality, they qualify as name & form (in name-&-form) -- rare!

  • possible to put some things "together" in UR head if U have v. good representations; but usu., even here, 1 soon checks back w/ ext. reality

  • When U "C things as they R", ultimately U will find all is conditioned & ultimately nothing (Int OR ext) has intrinsic nature (thus "empty")

  • B did want us to know when & how things happened (causation aka dependent origination)& to come to "C things as they R", internal & external

  • B never said "look within" nor implied it; : a fully interactive view of things, involving the internal & external, AKA name-&-form

  • ... such bare wise attention, leading to knowing more, will reveal some causation, feeling &/or intention (& help define the object itself).

  • Do wise noting, contemplating, or investigating. There's no progress w/o wise attention, for knowing more (this is insight process). ...

  • desire to make the broad applicability of much more clear; at the same time also want psyc based on biological principles

  • tried to see that different means may account for using old 'standard' but know that restriction to that is not good

  • 1 can wonder: will one lose more followers for apparent heresy or for a full devotion to science? I guess 1 will see. /

  • ...time to reconcile w/ books & the great possibilities of the vehicle of insight to enlightenment practice & of 'momentary conc.'

  • something wrong w/ system where objects of calming med. often seem grander & >significant than objects of insight med. Wrong view ?

  • Not by-analogy; not through some hoped-for generalization; but RIGHT where U "go" -- this allows full practice & realization of .

  • Read the rational, reality-based (testable) that's there & that's the real core (&w/ application demo'ed):

  • Reconciling , "the personal", and reliable communication (<- all is, aka replication) must be seen as our main task today.

  • individualizations of absorption R personal factors & can well B : communicable/communicated, verified for the good of all sentients

  • How can U know that something that is supposed to promote overt good DOES promote overt good, if you cannot specify that very good promoted?

  • Bad news: active memory can contain only 7+or-2 "chunks"; good news: In a sense, nothing can (from a certain perspective) be hard.

  • Organization for learning , consistent w/ 7+or-2 "chunks" finding on contents of active mind (& ):

  • & a certain kind of meditation: ,consistent w/ 7+or-2 "chunks" finding on contents of active mind

  • : state of consciousness can only deal w/ 7 +or- 2 "chunks "(aka 'mental objects') at a time, no exception way to progress

  • my collected old tweets can be found in convenient, reviewable & printable form: &

  • U won't be able to fully retain or grow any significant understanding w/o your own real actual/actualized understanding in your own behavior

  • A pt.of view contributed by Mahayana: Yet CORE teachings are most imp.&essential:

  • It has been thought that could be the 'religion' of . Now, this has been clearly shown & demo'ed:

  • methods yielding insight honored in Manual of Insight C:insight to enlightenment practice & 'momentary concentration' possibilities

  • Contributions to post-Pali-Canon: more appreciation of compassion & illustration of emptiness (though most already there & clear)

  • Theravada Buddhism's Pali Canon recognized to be a core of by the Mahayana school as well (thus by the vast majority of Buddhists)

  • The understandable can be more exciting, joyful, inspiring & satisfying than anything else (except perhaps being able to better proceed)

  • rational, realistic (reality-based) process for personal development & coming to C things as they R: RR at

  • Faith to have capacity for knowledge, followed by progressively gaining knowledge (& seeing it all as an understandable process):

  • No contentment w/ "wishing for all", beliefs, personal tranquility; Instead ardently striving w/ intentional actions to 'C things as they R'

  • Does the comprehensive summary of Theravada seem to be much to learn? THIS HELPS: (broken into digestible)

    If just external to U, U aren't doing science (& if U think U R, U are not a Buddhist) There's no answer to UR non-answer

  • There R still those, who for no known reason (no reason) want to escape , believing it limits them (yet w/ only a feeling as to how)

  • <-- (last post) This is AND this is

I have known college teachers with Ph.D.s who were tired of teaching their subject -- this could not possibly happen to a Buddhist

  • , for sure the earliest existentialism -- yet professors everywhere missed this (probably because THEY did not evaluate things!)

  • In reality, U R responsible for everything (like existentialism), so simply believe NOTHING. , for sure the earliest existentialism

  • For those recently displeased by posts: "signless conc. of mind rooted in formations & in intentions...do not delight in that" quotes Buddha

  • Steps in dev. practice ea. involve Cing FAULTS w/ 'self' & what one continues cling to (adversely/needlessly) & Cing more & better

  • Wisdom doesn't just involve non-conceptual but may C the non-conceptual. Not understanding this: not understanding Believe nothing

  • ...signless conc. of mind rooted in formations & in intentions: do not delight in that; do not seek that; & don't become established in that

  • w/o some conceptual recog., no dev. of insight & wisdom (rely on signs least changing). Yet 1 must direct attention to CHANGE & to signless!

  • 1 should recall: the Buddha tried EVERYTHING, incl. all the meditative absorptions & their results & NONE of all this alone worked

  • recommend following book on compassion (& emptiness), 2015, by a great author, Analayo: - good & beneficial for all

  • <-P.S. the insight-based inferential grouped phenomenon I develop to come to C differs a lot from recommended content in sitting meditation

  • Be all-embracing as much as you can, where it matters (another way to look at 'abstraction'). RR

  • 1 conceptual problem of is that it tried/tries to be all-embracing. ME: U don't have to do this nor can U (& stay real & rational)

  • <- ... YET there is always wise attention &/or wise mindfulness (of what's there in present, really never nothing). Know that too.

  • <- what's true of 'concentration' in last post should also B true of awareness & of mindfulness (rational )

  • or, if U are not concentrating on any object (v. much including mental objects) U should find nothing (nothing INHERENT in whatever is left)

  • Not the spontaneous impact of things, but some abstraction of this &/or that (many kinds)R involved in wisdom of the fund. truths of Reality

  • U can know what U don't know w/o finding confusion in (via) your wonderment. Seeking knowledge in an area need not be without end.

not excited: good. Perhaps U can refrain from "flying off the handle" or enthusiastically "going off the track". Yet, whole more than parts

  • I truly hope the Earth never sees a species as much in need of "growing up" as humans. Really & truly! , , just rationality

  • <-- ... If you can really see clearly (even for a needed moment), you will realize rationally the necessary truth of my last post.

  • How could the 'basics' be difficult, complicated, & hard-to-understand? They couldn't be & aren't

  • Any (or person) w/ 'smarts' & good judgment should realize that I should be 1 of their favorites.

  • Call me: a behaviorist (of sorts); an empiricist; a realist. Call me objective; call me a scientist; or simply just call me sane.

  • Some posts state the obvious: still needed when it's clearly seen they R not obvious enough (fully, really obvious)

  • If it seems my view is your view, here's more: rational, realistic : (comprehensive summary, & w/ )

  • If we have the ability to be self-correcting organisms, it is ONLY via good interaction with the environment that this could occur

  • If U 'see' Buddha-nature "inside" of U, but have ANY sense of self (shown directly or indirectly) OR ANY subtle conceit: then U R mistaken.

  • Not having a reasonable way of life (ardently striving for it) seems to be the basis of every serious downfall of humans.

  • I see "a wake-up call" as an apt metaphor for NOTHING! This is beyond sad. Know & get to love act. science, every min. of every day

  • <-- You must understand, before U are free. Have such an outlook to try to understand compreh. summary of :

  • All attachments are manifestations of attachment to a self. [Yet:] Attachment to saving beings is what allows for no attachment.

  • Dhammas include/have no this or that. Away w/ perceptions of better or worse. Once we know this equalizing nature, we enter nibbana together

  • 1 who seeks learning gains everyday;1 who seeks The Way loses every day;1 loses until he finds nothing to do which means nothing left undone

  • If it's realized, it can be spoken of simply (other expositions are not true): Get there: near-bottom link

  • Abhidhamma: luminous mind: bhavanga (stream of mind when NOT conscious) & say VERY little about it. : no concept of primordial good

  • Canon: 1 page: 'luminous' seems like it MAY refer to all minds; ALL other times (many): 'luminous' expressly refers to Enlightened

  • We do not have 'good'+ within us. We DO have the CAPACITY TO BECOME GOOD _OR_ yet BETTER (there is the seed, but there is no tree)

  • important to make things reasonable, IN THE SENSE OF making connection w/ real (& wholesome) intention _&_ for better understanding & action

  • lorlarz2 @lorlarz2 Jul 27

... Please consider my presentation of such a rational, realistic & an act. application of it to :

  • Nothing we can't know, know, or need to know (or anything) truly conflicts with a rational, all-reality-based necessary vital CORE

  • Mahasi Sayadaw, author of Manual of Insight (new in English): the questioner (leader), 6th Buddhist Council -- overseeing new ed. of Canon

  • Always observe what is obvious OR comes to be obvious (mental objects) by being well-based in observation, via wise attention & wise insight

  • Buddha (): W/o wholesome virtuous behavior: no development of concentration, no coming to see things as they are & no great vision

  • Moreover Mahasi Sayadaw says that anything important in the present should be processed BEYOND mere noting (then return to object)

  • M.S.'s Manual of Insight: there's NO WAY you should not have a good idea of what is going on in UR meditation & NO not-noting is recommended

  • In med. books simpler, less-specialized phenomenon is MUCH more often mentioned than insight-based inferential grouped phenomenon

  • book: vehicle of insight to enlightenment practice can yield full equivalents of access & absorption concentrations (otherwise achieved).

  • <-- To wit (see last post): Major example at <- modern applied rational realistic -- core of B &

  • "Inferential insight follows mature empirical insight & 1 can observe phy. phenomenon as a group,No limit to worldly objects 1 may consider"

  • In Sayadaw's Manual of Insight, nibbana is described like it is described on thus also supporting rational

  • <-'momentary concentration', concentration that when cultivated properly ITSELF develops [needed] tranquility - leader, 6th Buddhist Council

  • <-"major emphasis: how those who take the vehicle of insight to enlightenment practice...[can do so] w/o found.of tranquility concentration"

  • The newly published English Manual of Insight by a most venerable mid-20th cent. leading Buddhist SUPPORTS MY POSITIONS, insight & knowledge

  • Where else are you going to get a way-of-life applied to example other than ? (; dev. )

  • If U are in touch with the real world, the reality of the core of the Buddha's words will most excite U:

  • Some see way-"wack" (& empty) collections of words as more exciting than words describing v. great realistic possibilities for 1's knowledge

  • Seems humans, most in general, R IN EFFECT more irrational than rational. FIX via core rational - sums all

  • "Make sense" (or come to "make sense") of everything EXCEPT that which will never make sense: rational

  • ... One antidote to 3 major problems (see last post): (<-- also properly frames meditation)

  • Buddhism probl: Short-cut summaries (leaving things out); insertion of likeable false views (wisdom from "within"); off-the-track enthusiasm

  • R U a stream-enterer?: U know it naturally when U have come to realization & then have complete consistency w/ core . See my site.

  • Interested in the t-shirt? Can Direct Message me & get Link to group site for orders (U can stay anon to me; ALL $ is for co. making shirt).

  • If you are a stream-enterer, you should try to share the Teachings of the Buddha :

  • All the 'magic' you will need & all the magic you will get: rational, realistic (fully reality-based) :

  • W/ & wholesome mindfulness (having developed concentration & engaged in contemplation) C the One in the many & the many in the One

  • "...Away profane philosopher, ...Known it will not be but gladly loved & enjoyed" (same quote, Emerson) &

  • <- (Emerson) ... Let teach you how to behold the grand grandly and truly know & understand things better:

  • "... Seekest thou in nature the cause? ...Thou must behold it in a spirit as grand as that by which it exists, ere thou canst know the law."

  • "Who looks for me in form who seeks me in a voice indulges in a wasted effort such people see me not."

  • <- [last post] adapted from 11/13 Elephant Journal & supported by the Buddha's words AND his system. SEE:

  • W/o sense of 'space' within, field isn't ready for seed of contemplation, & w/o concentration 1 cannot look after the seed, allowing growth.

  • If UR goal is to be always mindful, in all daily life, ask yourself: how is the meditation I do furthering this? Think: more modes

  • Being 'mindful' without reason is an oxymoron; being 'present' with no clear 'object', absurd. & !

  • To some, nothing seems as dull as 'reasoning'; but, in reality, it's the penetrating Way to better everything. It is well-seen / guided mind

  • "Follow your heart", sure: but, do it reasonably. Sometimes it's good to point out obvious (& true) b/c, in action, it's forgotten

  • Don't have a dualism re: reason: that's based on being unaware & deluded. Well seen/understood it has a connection w/ everything.

  • "Age of Reason" is yet to come: where reason is properly seen & understood as integral. This is pt. of true

  • I may have done all I can do. To review the / statements made here see: (printable)

  • Saving our Earth should be your 1st priority; but it isn't unlikely that U could do this better if U learned core at the same time
